Safe & Sound’s ‘Cakes for a Cause’ Offers the Community a Sweet Way to Show their Support

Bake sale to offer 25% of all proceeds to fund Campaign’s initiatives to raise breast cancer awareness

Dubai, UAE, October 10 – The first Safe and Sound ‘Cakes for a Cause’ bake sale on October 13 invites the UAE community to show their support for the Campaign’s cause by purchasing the sweet treats on offer from some of Dubai’s leading confectioners and hotels.

The bake sale, which will take place at BurJuman from 4pm-9pm, will see a spread of some of the most popular cakes and other confectionery from Kitsch, Sweet Lane Cakes, Simply Delicious, Fooderati Arabia, Ginny’s, Dome Café, Brownie Point, A Touch of Frosting, Peace of Cake by Nidhi, Glittery Jimmies, Vanilla Sukkar, Slice of Life, Bloomsbury Cupcakes, Frosted Fantasies, Sugar ‘n’ Frost, Kulsum Khalid, Famished In Arabia, Reverie, Frosted Miracles, Sweet Stuff, Lino's Coffee and Simply Irresistible, as well as from the pastry kitchens of the Mövenpick Hotel Jumeirah Beach, Al Maha Luxury Resort and Spa, Raffles Dubai, Marco Polo Hotel, Radisson Blu and City Max Hotel Bur Dubai amongst other participants.

25% of all ‘Cakes for a Cause’ sales proceeds will be donated to Safe and Sound to fund the Campaign’s activities and awareness raising initiatives.

“This is the first year Safe and Sound has organized a bake sale. It’s a yummy way for individuals to contribute to the fund-raising activities and every cake bought will help make a difference. We are extremely pleased to have got some of Dubai’s most popular bakeries and talented pastry chefs involved in the event and are grateful for their enthusiastic support of the Safe and Sound Campaign,” said Sabina Khandwani, Spokesperson for Safe and Sound and Head of Marketing and PR at BurJuman.

In its fifteenth consecutive year since it was first launched, BurJuman’s non-profit campaign has once again teamed up with a number of organizations in order to generate the furthest outreach possible. Partners for the 2011 campaign include Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment (DEPE), ADCB, Amber Clinics, Del Monte and UniCare Medical Centre.

SAFE & SOUND: Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign





October being the national month of breast cancer awareness led my close friend/co-blogger, Rachel and I to conduct a "Photoshoot for a cause" wherein we called in our family, friends, acquaintances and online followers to support the breast cancer awareness campaign by wearing pink shirts and joining us on a mini-photoshoot at the park. It went pretty well considering we sent out late notices (a day before the photoshoot). We are really blessed with wonderful people who came and donated as well. Rachel decided to email Safe and Sound* to be the beneficiary of the donations we acquired. Currently, I am very proud to say that we are one of their online ambassadors. I'm really happy, I've always wanted to be an ambassador of a worthy cause. Cancer is becoming our number 1 health enemy, we should support campaigns just like safe and sound's and help people fight this monster.

The BurJuman Safe and Sound campaign is one of the region’s largest, most comprehensive breast cancer awareness campaigns. Launched in 1997, this year round programme has reached over 20 million people with the key message of survival through early detection and treatment. The campaign works to educate the UAE community on risk factors and the importance of being proactive by performing regular check-ups.

Safe and Sound is also privileged to have the annual support of major blue chip corporate from varied industry sectors. The partnership with these progressive companies enables the campaign to effectively spread the message of early detection amongst thousands of women and men in a manner that is relevant to them.

Through numerous in-mall and external awareness and fundraising events including the annual BurJuman Pink Walkathon, along with comprehensive outreach initiatives, Safe and Sound has encouraged families in the UAE to proactively take charge of their health, helping to increase understanding and empower women in the fight against breast cancer.
Proceeds from fund raising initiatives are monitored by the Red Crescent and go towards generating further awareness and supporting patient care.
