When I was in high school, my schoolmates and I always anticipated the opening of Global Village. It was a place filled with global pavilions, amusement park rides, authentic restaurants and live performances. I used to perform in the tiny stage positioned in the middle of the Philippines Pavilion as a majorette and a Singkil (Maranao Cultural dance) dancer. Who would've thought that I used to dance? Now, it would be better for the safety of everyone that I sit in the corner with my guitar. We don't want people to be scarred forever having watched my dance steps :))
4 years later, I get to visit Global village again with my siblings and cousins...

Hi everyone! First of all let me greet you a Happy New Year! I hope the first week of the year has treated you well. Mine was pretty normal until something happened the other night. Something very important to me got away from my hands for a while and thankfully I got it back the next afternoon. Thank you very much to the kind soul who kept it for me. That night, when I got home and realized that it may be gone forever, I prayed so hard. I hardly slept, wishing someone would call my phone and tell me that my precious something was in their possession. The next afternoon, it was put back in my arms. I couldn't explain how happy and relieved I was. On the way home, I reflected on what happened and what God was trying to tell me. I believe he wanted me to be more aggressive, stop being afraid of rejection and just get out there.
For this year I set out my resolutions and I'm aiming to achieve all of them:
* Shoot, shoot and shoot.
- Since I left the Philippines and moved back to the UAE, it's been so difficult for me to find models and locations to shoot at. Unlike the Philippines, there aren't much locations to shoot in and I don't have a network of models. But, I shouldn't let these hinder me from shooting and doing what I love. I admit for some time, I have been in a rut, an artist's block. I want to break through that, get my bum of the couch and just shoot. This year, I am going to work hard with my photography, shoot more weddings, portraits and fashion.
* Stop procrastinating.
- A bad trait of mine. I am a self confessed procrastinator. But I must say, I'm improving :D
* Do some more covers.
- I started YouTube in 2009, and since then I've only put up a couple of videos. I've been getting emails from people who watch them, asking me to do some more. Music is my way of getting away from stress, it's something I love doing, and I'm really happy that people from different walks of life, from different countries, are touched by my covers. They are the ones who keep me going.
* Post more blog entries.
Since I started blogging in April 2011, I'm proud I put up 24 posts and got 15,000 views. I know it's not a lot compared to others, but I'm really happy and proud about it. This year, I'm planning to put up much more than 24 posts and hopefully get more views. If you haven't noticed, I have my own URL already, so you can just type in www.janineske.com and will be directed to my blog. In a few months from now, I'm planning to put up a full website dedicated to my photography and blogging.
* Read the bible more often and share the good news
Being a Christian, I think it's our obligation to share the good news. If you follow me on twitter, I try and tweet a verse from what I read in the morning before I get ready for work. I try to read the bible everyday but I'm not perfect, so at times, I don't. Reading the bible as often as I can has made me become a better person, and helped me to understand things that I couldn't when I was younger. I know that religion is quite a sensitive topic and being in a middle eastern country, I'll probably lose some readers, but I stay true to what I believe in and always will.
Thank you very much for reading this blog post. I wish you all a happy 2012! Let us all make the most out of it. God bless!
